Please find below an overview of the activities at Vivian Fowler Memorial College from 7th October to 13th October 2016.
ACADEMICS:
The first round of formative assessments (Test 1, week 3) were concluded on Monday, 10th October 2016, due to the fact that Monday, 3rd October was a public holiday.
JSS1 EXCURSION TO BADAGRY:
The JSS1 students thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Badagry on Monday, 10th October 2016, which gave them an opportunity to see the slave trade outposts, the first storey building in Nigeria and several other historic landmarks. The highlight of the trip was the visit to the Akran of Badagry’s palace.
We thank all parents who accompanied the students and helped make the excursion a huge success.
EVENTS:
- On Saturday, 8th October 2016, 25 students participated in the Lagos Chess League Competition held at Cayley College, Ikeja. Both our junior and senior teams qualified for the next round.
- On Saturday, 8th October 2016, 20 students attended the UK/North American Boarding schools fair organized by NUBI Educational Counselling Ltd. at Southern Sun Hotel, Ikoyi
- International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated in school on Tuesday, 11th October 2016. Information about the event and the detrimental effects of child marriage on girls’ progress was read out at assembly. 23 students attended the International Girl Child Day celebration organized by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Nigeria at the MUSON centre, Ikoyi.
- On Tuesday, 11th October 2016, Mr.Kelechi Chioma of Protégé Centre conducted a workshop for the English teachers on ‘Using Scrabble to enhance learning in the classroom’.
- 6 students attended the International Girl Child Celebration themed “Teen Girls: Understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” organized by BIIM HIGH at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikeja on Wednesday, 12th October 2016. Olamide Akinyemi, an SS3 student, shared a presentation on her understanding and action plan for Goal 5 – Gender Equality.
- On Wednesday, 12th October 2016, Women In Technology (W-Tec) conducted Safety Training for all staff and students of the school which included Online Safety tips and Self-defense techniques in the case of physical assault.
THE HOSTEL:
Scrabble was introduced as a weekend activity for boarders on Saturday, 8th October 2016. A team of facilitators from Protégé Centre did a workshop on the rules and regulations of the game and will be conducting these sessions every Saturday. The school plans to introduce Scrabble as a full-fledged club from the 2nd term onwards.
PARENT –TEACHER FORUM (PTF) MEETING AND VISITING DAY:
We take this opportunity to remind you about the 1st PTF meeting of this session on 15th October 2016, which will be held at 11 am in the school hall. We enjoin all parents of both day students and boarders to participate in this meeting to ensure positive outcomes.
