Dear parents

We trust all of you had a wonderful weekend. Here is an update on activities at Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls during weeks 7 & 8.

The SS3 students completed their mock examinations on Friday, 17th February 2017 and had a week of intense tutorials from Monday, 20th February to Sunday, 26th February 2017.

On Friday, 17th February 2017, our relay team participated in the Supreme Education Foundation Invitational Relay and won Bronze.

On Saturday, 18th February 2017, the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls debate team participated in the AISEN KS3 & KS4 Inter-school debate held at White Dove School Sangotedo. Our Junior team comprising of Doyinsola Ogunshola and Ibukun Adetola won the 1st position in the KS3 debate. They spoke for the motion: SOCIAL MEDIA IS AN UNNECESSARY DISTRACTION ON THE CHILD’S EDUCATION. The Senior team comprising of Mercy Oluwarinu and Rachael Abati won the 2nd position in the KS4 debate. They opposed the motion: PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION OF HOME-MADE PRODUCTS IS THE SOLUTION TO NIGERIAN ECONOMIC RECOVERY.

On Friday, 24th February 2017, our relay team placed 3rd at the Top Grade Secondary School Invitational Relay.

On Tuesday, 28th February 2017, volunteers from The Real Woman Foundation, an NGO committed to women empowerment conducted a 4- hour workshop for our students titled For Girls Only. A range of topics from hygiene and etiquette to sex, sexual abuse and STDs were treated.

On the same day, ten of our students attended the Public Presentation and Book Launch of “Justice Kayode Eso, Beacon of Judicial Activism” at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja. Late Justice Kayode Eso was Chairman of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls until his demise in 2015.

Ash Wednesday was observed in the school on Wednesday, 1st March 2017. Catholic and Anglican priests were available to minister to our students.

On Thursday, 2nd March 2017, 35 of our senior students attended the 11th Edition of the Annual Inspirational Program: We Are The Future Of Our Nation (WATFON). The theme this year was “Choose Nigeria” and the program featured talks by several Nigerian role models including Sen.Liyel Imoke and Ndidi Nwuneli.

Linda Ikeji, the famous blogger, entrepreneur and philanthropist was in school on Thursday, 2nd March 2017 to talk to the students on making the most of opportunities, the value of kindness and other core values. She also enlightened our students on her project “I am self made”.

On Friday, 3rd March 2017, the contestants for the 2017-2018 school elections gave their manifesto speeches, in a bid to convince their fellow students to vote for them. The elections will take place on Friday, 17th March 2017.

The Annual Continuing Education & Counseling fair took place on Saturday, 4th March 2017. It was a resounding success with participation from more than 40 tertiary institutions and sixth form colleges from the UK, USA, Canada and Nigeria. Students from 25 schools attended the fair.

We request parents to attend their daughters’ open days to keep abreast of their academic progress.

The Open Days are scheduled as follows.

  • Thursday, 9th March 2017: SS1 Open Day
  • Friday, 10th March 2017 : SS2 Open Day
  • Monday, 13th March 2017 : JS 1 Open Day
  • Tuesday, 14th March 2017 : JS 2 Open Day
  • Wednesday, 15th March 2017 : JS 3 Open Day

We would like to remind parents of day students that it is imperative that the prescribed hair style for each week is adhered to. Non-compliance would result in the student being sent back home or the school arranging for a braider to redo the defaulting student’s hair, for which the parent will be billed.
